JUNE24: SUMER IS SORTA ICUMEN IN
Return to newslettering, return to shows, return to records: we return
For those still subscribed and substack’d, our silence in the ‘slettersphere has probably gone mercifully unnoticed. As you may know, it’s been an emotional and confusing time/year! for us here at KRAAK, and a lot of changes ~ inner and perhaps/inevitably outer ~ are on their way. These are punches one has to take and roll with, and from which inevitably new things will come for us, as well as for all those who have followed KRAAK over the years and decades (!). We’re a lurching train, but a train (I guess) nonetheless, and as long as the rails are there we’ll keep moving. Confused metaphors aside, here’s what’s happening till the next newsletter:
BLOCK PARTY TIMES AT FETE DE L’ELEPHANT
A return to shows ~ and releases! ~ this very Saturday 22/06, for we'll be back at the Parc de la Fonderie for the second coming of bliss and abyss as part of Festival de la fête de l'Eléphant neighborhood fest! For this sophomore Block Party @ Fête de l'Eléphant we lock trunks with our favorite Molenbeekian cabal in an afternoon of sunny sights, sounds, and hopefully weather too. Hypnotic violins by Roxane Métayer, Chillera’s chillful psychedelia and Maibaum’s magical mushroom music form the core sprawling celebratory rituals for this year’s strange solstice ~ the ushering of Maibaum’s debut release is a reason to rejoice! + it's free!
Join us in the hopefully dry chapiteau ~ first show at 18:00, fanfares and choirs and food and good times from 13:00 ~ more info about the show here! And full Fête de l’Eléphant program here 🐘
NEW RELEASE A’COMIN: MAIBAUM - SUMER IS ICUMEN IN
OUT JULY 2, something for the maypoles of the imaginary: debut album of Maibaum (Qoté of Paeri Daiza and Dhavali Giri stock) in a much-dreamed co-release combo with Psychic Sounds and Nonlocal Research. In Sumer is Icumen In we see Qoté orchestrating vivid rites of polished futures with this impish collection of sparkling sounds. In the words of José Badía Berner, “at times reminiscent of Hans-Joachim Roedelius' enveloping arrangements, Maibaum's ambiances rely on mild repetitive patterns subsequently textured by prickling sprouts, mechanic dislocations and revamps that stoke and brighten the stirring motions… [Sumer Is Incumen In] is a tale of regeneration, of spring's delicate procedures and allure, a celebration of gracious and fortunate junctions between nature and machinery.”
Check out Antonin Trincard’s video for “Grande Albero Buono Magico Uoma” on our YT channel and pre-order your copy of Sumer is Icumen In over on our Bandcamp.
ODDS & ENDLOOS
Radio Roundup, will not even bother but to say that TODAY we’ll have Nonlocal DJs (DJ Twinkles & Rev23) at Kiosk. It might be sunny? We’ll see, but you can always tune in from your rain shelter over at Kiosk Radio dot com.
Many sweet souls have departed this year, and we were further saddened to hear of the passing of Yan Charpentier of Dhavali Giri and the fantastic microlabel and publisher Manufacture Errata: imaginative design, great output, and voices of a voice that will be missed. A legacy this wonderful, however short, is always worth the detour: on Bandcamp, Instagram, and wherever the rabbit hole leads.
Other support news: our DEKANT pals just put out an amazing compilation including a gaggle of beloved musicians, artists and Le Coq buddies like Ameel Brecht, Silvia Tarozzi, Frank Hurricane, Annelies Monséré, Megabasse and many more. All proceeds go to support their concerts org, which is single-handedly making Bruges a place you actually want to go to. Get it here!
